At long last...an update!

Image
It's been so busy and time goes so fast. Ms. Mackay is now 5, and Owen is now 3. Both kiddos are doing so well and bring us so much joy (and occasional frustration). Here's a quick view into our past halloween. Mackay, who has been bitten by the princess bug (much to my dismay), is a candy corn princess, and Owie, of course, is a zombie. When he got to preschool that morning, the other kids didn't want to play with him, concerned about his road rash and what might have happened to him before school. Here's a quick pic of the kiddos at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We had a fun weekend at our favorite home away from home, the Bernardus Lodge.  Both Mac and Owen celebrated recent birthdays. Mac turned 5 with an epic 'Build a Bear' party with her best friends. All of us are healthy and doing well, and looking forward to Christmas.

Bunkbeds!!

So, Bill up and decided to build the kids some bunkbeds. I'd say he was successful! The very best part of this success is that Owen, who has been a permanent fixture in our bedroom for the past few years, has finally gone to bed in his own room, and stayed there until morning. Sweet dreams, everyone!

Weddings and Memorials

People always say that family reunions always happen at weddings or funerals. We Borovacs had the luck (?) to have them both in one weekend. Hey - we're nothing if not efficient. Bill and I were happy to make the trek to our old stomping grounds in Seattle for Nikki's wedding. She was even more stunning than she normally is, and we all had a wonderful time. When Owen first saw Nikki in her wedding dress, he asked Bill with a small amount of awe... 'Is she a princess???' And she was! Mackay, who actually was willing to sit through the ceremony with me while Bill and Owen were off looking at sheep in the neighboring farm, kept saying - quite loudly - 'When is the DANCING going to start?!'  But dance they did! And here's some proof.  Owen stayed entertained with the help of a big pink balloon that remained his dance partner for most of the evening. When we weren't dancing, the kids were entertaining themselves with the chair decorations. Let it

Going too fast!

Can't believe it's been 3 months since my last post. We've been busy with work, and kids and life, and somehow finding a quiet moment to sit down and write has been impossible. We recently returned from a fabulous Kauai vacation. We finally opted to sell our house there, as we were finding less and less time to make the trek, and when we did go, the kids demand a pool. So, we joined Bill's brother and his family  at the Westin Princeville (highly recommend it!). Incredibly relaxing for us, and the kids were worn out from pool slides, swimming and Owen's incessant chasing of any bird within a 10 foot radius. I think, left to his own devices, he could single-handledly reduce the chicken population by about 25%. Mackay is 4 1/2, is loving preschool, and other than a few moments of high drama each day, is doing just great. Owen's now 2 1/2 and his health has been good. In fact, I think this is the first vacation that didn't involve a trip to the emergency room

Happy New Year

THANK GOD 2011 is over. For 2012, we don't need anything spectacular -- I'd be happy with a slow, boring, uneventful, but healthy year. Despite our bumpy road in 2011, we did have a lovely Christmas, with - as Bill pointed out repeatedly to everyone who came within 10 feet of our house - the world's most beautiful Christmas tree. It truly was gorgeous. And this year, we got smarter and put plastic ornaments on the bottom, significantly reducing the volume of glass shards that occurred last year when Owen could no longer restrain himself and had to pluck them off and huck them across the room. We were able to celebrate with friends and family for Christmas, and then headed to Tahoe in search of some snow and Mac and Owen's Bennett cousins. Unfortunately, it was clear and largely sunny the whole week, with not a snowflake to be found. We drove all the way to the top of Mount Rose (10,000 feet) just to find a patch of ice to take the kids sledding. They had a great time an
